The dataset is converted to file geodatabase (FGDB) format using tools in ArcGIS. The geometry is checked, and if needed repaired.
After processing, the dataset is checked for drawing display and number of records and file sizes compared with source materials.
The World Base Map was derived using Landsat 8, Landsat 7 (Global Land Survey (GLS) 2000 and GLS 2005), and SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) as a global base. Landsat 7 provided the horizontal positional accuracy of +/- 50 meters 90% CE, and SRTM ensured that features appropriately fit the topography (i.e., rivers flowed through valleys).

The following steps were performed by Esri: Copied Data and Maps 2019 World Administrative Divisions. Dissolved features on the fields COUNTRY, CONTINENT and LAND_RANK to create the country features. Cleaned up sliver polygons. Corrected fields to match Data and Maps 2018 World Countries by appending fields from World Countries, summarizing and renaming fields from World Administrative Divisions, and deleting fields not needed. Renamed the countries, in all their associated name fields, from “The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” to “North Macedonia” and “Swaziland” to “Eswatini”. Verified the feature names and counts by referencing the World Factbook.
